On view is “Relatum – Silence” (2014) which was previously shown in the exhibition “Formes simples”, at Centre Pompidou-Metz in 2014, along with a selection of paintings spanning from 1977 to 2018.
Through gestures of great simplicity, Lee Ufan invites the viewer to observe the world with attention. We rarely look at a stone when we walk in nature. On the other hand, if an artist moves it to the museum, one starts wondering about its history. Lee Ufan has given all his sculptures the Latin title “Relatum”. Each piece centres on the juxtaposition of a range of natural and industrial materials, and their resulting relationships. Lee Ufan barely intervenes in these core elements.
