On view at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan: Ron Mueck

From early masterpieces to recent creations, the sculptures on view challenge our perception of reality through the careful manipulation of scale and their ability to conjure a convincing sense of the specific whilst simultaneously retaining an ambiguity, which leaves them open to individual reflection. They possess a mysterious yet intensely powerful presence which interrogates our relationship with our bodies and, more broadly, with existence itself.

‘He invites us to think for ourselves. He’s recognising a moment that seems to have some poignance, that would provide an opportunity for people to stop and think..’ moments that otherwise just might pass by.’ — Charlie Clarke, Associate Curator of the exhibition
