This major solo presentation opens in October across both of our Chelsea locations. It will be Nara’s first solo exhibition in New York in nearly a decade and features new paintings and drawings, recent sculptures, and early works selected by the artist. Nara is renowned for his figures with big heads and wide eyes, celebrated for their characterful demeanor and perceived to possess both innocence and defiance. He understands them as self-portraits, but they have transcended their original impetus and become cultural touchstones, resonating with a global audience and influencing younger generations of artists and viewers alike.
