How We Hold What Won’t Stay
*How We Hold What Won’t Stay* will open on Tuesday, 6 October, from 6–8 pm, with all welcome.
The exhibition considers what it means to build around what disappears: to preserve or persevere. Objects corrode, bodies grow old, and places become unrecognisable. What feels solid buckles. We pull back or are pulled, and sometimes simply hold tighter.
The works bring together traces of the past and materials encountered by chance, exploring acts of gathering, binding, sharing and withholding. They reach for what is leaving and grasp at what cannot be kept. It passes through us, and we resist its passing.
Perhaps holding is a reflex. The quicker something slips, the tighter we grip. We hold onto what is leaving not because we can keep it, but because it is easier than letting go.
