Kasper Sonne’s exhibition People Are Strange is on view from September 10 through October 30.

The figures in this new body of work appear both in harmony with and detached from the lucid planes of water and sky surrounding them. Elegant and upright, they look away in quiet contemplation, their elongated forms taking on an almost mythic quality as they move through landscapes that feel timeless rather than incidental.

The juxtaposition of contemporary outfits with natural settings, alongside spectral light and a luminous palette, evokes a sense of instability in the human condition and questions the possibility of connection with another. As the artist notes, “For me, it’s always this conflict – it’s about displacement. I create these characters that have no obvious reason to be in these environments.”
