‘Surface Tension’ is now open at Ben Brown Fine Arts.
The exhibition examines how a small group of British painters survived, and even flourished, in this climate. Each is a distinctive and important voice, while also being a product of their age. Working independently, they arrived at strikingly common ground through a shared preoccupation with surface, gesture and the physical act of painting.
