‘The Alice in Wonderland Syndrome’ is Elmgreen & Dragset’s (@elmgreenanddragsetstudio) first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, on view through October 25, 2025 at Pace Gallery (@pacegallery). The Berlin-based duo, known for their subversive sculptural interventions and large-scale installations, have worked together for 30 years and are celebrated for projects such as the iconic Prada Marfa (2005).
The exhibition takes its title from Alice in Wonderland Syndrome (AIWS), or Dysmetropsia, a rare neurological condition often linked to migraines, infections, or fatigue, in which a person’s perception of size, distance, or shape is distorted — objects may appear dramatically larger, smaller, closer, or farther away than they are. Inspired by this disorienting experience, The show includes hyperrealistic figures, marble sculptures of digitally absorbed subjects, mirrored “Sky Target” paintings, and immersive spatial reduplications, all probing how altered perception shapes our sense of reality. In doing so, the artists extend their ongoing investigation into identity, representation, and the way physical environments influence human experience.
