The Metropolitan Museum of Art has unveiled Liu Wei’s site-specific sculptures on the museum’s Fifth Avenue facade as part of Speculation.

The exhibition title reflects both the formal assemblage of the works and the uncertainties of profound change, shaped by Liu Wei’s experience of living through an era of rapid globalization and modernization in China.

Liu Wei’s 2026 Genesis Facade Commission marks his first major project in the U.S. and The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s first commission of a mainland Chinese artist in 20 years.
