‘Wire Piece’ (1978) by Jackie Winsor is an almost three-foot sculpture formed of layers of wire supported by a wooden structure.

In the center of each vertical panel a small square hole has been cut into the wire, providing a window into the work’s interior and through to the other side.

From 1976 to 1981 Winsor produced approximately twelve cubic sculptures in materials such as cement, glass, and sheetrock, and wooden sculptures marked by their method of fabrication: drilled, burnt or exploded. This extended investigation into the logical possibilities of sculpture within distinct limits resulted in a complex and rigorous body of work, the majority of which is now housed in museums.

+ Windsor is also included in ‘Minimal’ at the Bourse de Commerce with ‘Bound Grid’ (1971-72), an earlier piece that showcases her use of unrefined materials and grids to investigate ideas about process and labor.

‘Wire Piece’ is featured in the gallery’s 2025 Art Basel Paris presentation.
