Kim Bohie’s TOWARDS: There Was Light is on view at Gallery Hyundai in Seoul from August 26 to October 18, 2026.
The exhibition moves beyond the familiar characterization of Kim Bohie as a painter of Jeju landscapes, presenting her as a significant figure who has expanded the formal legacy of Korean painting into a contemporary pictorial language. Her paintings are shaped by prolonged observation, memory and repetition, with nature appearing not as a fixed landscape but as a living world that changes with light and time.
The exhibition brings together views of the sea extending beyond the horizon, close-up images of palm fronds and fruit, and the monumental The Days (2022), first presented at the Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art in 2022 and shown again in the Unlimited sector of Art Basel in Basel earlier this year.
